The New York Times reports today that thousands of green card holders have applied for US Citizenship ahead of the July 30, 2007 fee increase from $400 to $675. Permanent residents who have continuously lived in the US may apply for citizenship.
In addition, the increase in applications is due to a proposed change in the citizenship test that would make it more difficult to pass. Permanent aliens are also feeling a lack of security for their families and are worried that they may have issues with their employment status in the future.
